Student Services for International Students FAQs
Answers to what international students in Australia ask us most.
Your consultation and education counselling are free. Visa and migration services, such as student visa, 485 and PR applications, are fee-based, and we'll give you a clear quote before you commit. You can contact any of our offices in Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney to book.
Look for a counsellor who is QEAC-certified, and for visa advice, a registered migration agent. A good counsellor also explains fees in writing and has genuine student reviews. Be careful of anyone who promises guaranteed visa or PR outcomes.
QEAC stands for Qualified Education Agent Counsellor. It's an industry certification for education agents who've completed training in Australia's international education laws and ethical standards. Our counsellors hold this certification, so you get advice from trained professionals.
The rules change often. In September 2026, the government announced plans to stop most international students from bringing their partners or children on a student visa, and to tighten rules on switching courses. Visitor and 485 visa holders are no longer allowed to move directly onto a student visa while in Australia. Talk to us before making any change to your study or visa.
The cost depends on the provider, the level of cover, and whether you're insuring just yourself or your family. You need cover for the whole length of your visa, so it's worth comparing providers. You can compare OSHC prices on our health insurance portal.
For a student visa, you currently need to show at least AUD 29,710 a year for living costs. Actual costs vary by city and lifestyle. Sydney and Melbourne tend to cost more than Brisbane, so plan your budget around rent, food and transport where you'll study.
Common options include purpose-built student accommodation, shared rentals, homestays and on-campus housing. Inspect a property before you pay, and make sure your bond is lodged with the state's bond authority. Our student accommodation service can help you find the right fit.
Not automatically. Two years of study can count towards the Australian study requirement for points and may make you eligible for a 485 visa. PR usually also depends on your occupation, a skills assessment, your points score and an invitation. Talk to us about your pathway before you choose a course.
Not always IELTS specifically. Institutions and the Department of Home Affairs accept a range of English tests, including PTE Academic and TOEFL iBT. The score you need depends on your course and your visa.
Yes. Many institutions offer scholarships or tuition fee reductions to international students who are already studying here, including those moving to a higher-level course. We can help you find the ones you're eligible for.
